Why Local Support Matters

ree

In every community, there are individuals silently carrying the weight of abusive relationships. For many, the path to safety and healing begins with the support of others who believe in them, stand by them, and provide resources for change. Here in St. Pete, CASA (Community Action Stops Abuse) has been at the heart of that mission—offering hope, safety, and empowerment for survivors.

Why Local Support Matters

Leaving an abusive situation is never easy. Survivors often face emotional, financial, and social barriers that can feel overwhelming. Local organizations like CASA make a life-changing difference by providing shelter, counseling, legal advocacy, prevention programs, and ongoing support.

The need is especially urgent in our own backyard. Pinellas County has one of the highest rates of domestic violence in Florida, ranking 5th out of 67 counties. This sobering reality makes the work of CASA—and the support of the St. Pete community—more vital than ever. What are the statistics in your community?

CASA’s Mission and Vision

  • Mission: Challenging the societal acceptance of all forms of domestic violence, CASA stands up to silence through advocacy, prevention, intervention, and support services.

  • Vision: A society free from domestic violence.

CASA’s work extends far beyond crisis response—it’s about changing the conversation around domestic violence and ensuring every voice is heard, every story is honored, and every survivor has a path forward.

How We Can All Help

Supporting National CASA and GAL Association for children and its mission is something everyone can take part within their local community. Here are a few ways to make a difference:

  • Spread awareness – Share resources and information with friends, family, and coworkers.

  • Volunteer your time – CASA offers opportunities to serve as an advocate, mentor, or community educator.

  • Donate – Financial and material contributions directly help survivors rebuild their lives. Here is the link to donate https://casapinellas.org

  • Listen and support – If someone confides in you about abuse, believe them, listen without judgment, and connect them to resources like CASA.

Together, we can be a voice for those who feel silenced and help create a future where domestic violence is no longer tolerated.

If you or someone you know needs help, reach out to CASA’s 24-hour hotline: (727) 895-4912. You are not alone.

CASA's next local event here in St. Pete is Saturday, Oct 25. It is the 3rd Annual Scavenger Hunt. Details located here https://casapinellas.org
